Description

This is a Sand Cat, [link] . I took this picture at the Syr. NY Zoo on 1-7-12. The room this cat is in, is in the building where all the animals there like the dark. The room there in has a dark red heat lamp for light. This really makes it very hard to get a nice shot of them and even harder to get one that in in focus and these little guys don't stop moving in less their sleeping and then their kind of boring. Also you can't use a flash to take a picture. So let me know if you think I should enter this shot.

Alright, first off, I know where *cindy1701d took this picture. The Rosamond Gifford Zoo in Syracuse is very familiar to me. With that being said, she has managed to capture a very difficult exhibit and animal at the RG Zoo, and managed extremely well.

The exhibit is one of the hardest ones I've ever tried to take pictures of, for two different reasons. It is extremely dark and generally the two inhabitant cats are usually running so fast and moving all around most of the pictures are blurry without extremely amazing camera gear. The fact I do not see the darkness of the exhibit at all in this photo is amazing. On top of that she has managed to caprture one without too much movement in the photo!

I love the natural background and the cliff ledge the Sand Cat is on, it reminds me a little of the Lion King. I also like that you can see the details in the fur of the cat. And of course his big haunting eyes are oh-so adorable.

The pose is stunning. I think that he is standing fiercely and strongly which is humorous since these Sand Cat basically look like domestic cats with wider faces.

Overall I was very impressed by this shot based on the Exhibit the Sand Cats are in. I think *cindy1701d has done a fabulous job and it takes skills and patience to capture this critter at the Rosamond.
