This is Donovan he and his baby brother and sister all live at the Utica Zoo in NY. I really love taking pictures of him as I have been taking them since he was a couple of months old, and he is now almost 2 years. Taken 2-17-13
Don't you just love his new hair do. I think it is so cute. I have never really heard him roar. But I guess I will one day. I guess now that the parents are gone it does make Donovan the King, and Murphy the young prince. All though my daughter thinks Donovan is too chill and when they get older Murphy will take over the prided. I hope not though, I guess we will have to wait and see.
You've got that right, Cindy: Donovan's fast-developing mane is adorable! Given time, it should develop the glossy black and gold shades borne by the three lions' father, Bakari!
The boys' growing manes proves that lions' 'dos' don't develop quite like this: Simba Teen (Ah well. Teen Simba is quite cute, don't you think? I do. )
It will be interesting, to see how things turn out! (You and your daughter may have to wager that either Donovan will be king, or Murphy will be! Sounds like fun!! )
Although, if my memory serves me right; it was (Jespah) the younger son of Elsa, the lioness of two worlds; who became king of his family's pride -- because his older brother, Gopa, was quite timid! (Even though Gopa's position as the older son became apparent quite soon after Elsa's sons and daughter, Little Elsa; were born: He was larger and his mane began to develop more quickly than his younger, but also bolder, brother.) So it will be very interersting, to see who is right, between yourself and *Houndofthenight
It will be interesting... Generally, it will depend on whether Monni's ancestors also had dark manes; as whether or not Donovan's and Murphy's manes will darken, over time... All the same, I love the golden tones the boys are sporting! Very nice!!
